Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to spend 48 hours in the city of Olomouc in Czechia. Although my visit was primarily for work purposes, I managed to carve out a few hours to explore the city on foot and capture some photos.

At the core of Olomouc lies the picturesque town square, known as Horní náměstí (Upper Square). This square serves as the heart of the city, surrounded by awe-inspiring Baroque and Gothic buildings.

A true highlight of the square is the magnificent Holy Trinity Column, an elaborate Baroque monument that stands proudly as a symbol of Olomouc. The column’s intricate design and artistic details are truly captivating.

The Holy Trinity Column was built between 1716 and 1754 and was designed by the renowned architect Wenzel Render. It was constructed to commemorate the end of a devastating plague that struck the city in the early 18th century, causing immense suffering and loss of life. The column was erected as an expression of gratitude for the city’s deliverance from the plague and as a dedication to the Holy Trinity.
