Munich is the birthplace of BMW. The headquarters of Bayerische Motoren Werke are located here. For anyone interested in motoring, it is one of the most important places connected with the history of the German automotive industry.

The BMW complex includes the production facilities as well as two attractions that are often confused. The first is the BMW Museum. It is dedicated to the history of the brand. The collection includes historic cars, motorcycles, engines, concept vehicles and exhibits that show how BMW has developed since the early twentieth century.

Next to the museum is BMW Welt. It is a modern exhibition and customer experience centre rather than a museum. The latest BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad models are on display here. Visitors can examine many of the vehicles from close up. They can also sit behind the wheel and watch new cars being handed over to their owners. The building itself is known for its striking contemporary architecture.

The two attractions stand next to each other and form part of the same complex. However, they offer very different experiences. The BMW Museum tells the story of the brand and its engineering achievements. BMW Welt focuses on today’s models and the future of mobility.

The photographs below were taken at BMW Welt during my visit in June 2026.
