Nestled along Poland’s Baltic coast, Sopot is a seaside town with a tranquil ambiance. It is a part of the Tri-City agglomeration, comprising Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot. Its defining feature is the wooden pier, extending gracefully into the Baltic Sea. Stretching over 500 meters into the sea, it holds the distinction of being the longest wooden pier in Europe. Constructed in the early 20th century, the pier has weathered the passage of time and undergone several renovations, maintaining its classic charm. The pier is primarily constructed from wood, emphasizing a classic and timeless aesthetic that harmonizes with its coastal surroundings. The wooden structure is supported by sturdy piles driven into the seabed, providing the necessary stability for the pier’s considerable length. The elongated walkway features benches and observation points, allowing people to pause and appreciate the panoramic views of the sea. Sopot’s main Monte Cassino Street, often referred to as “Monciak”, serves as the main artery and social heart of Sopot. This bustling promenade is renowned for its lively atmosphere, eclectic architecture, and diverse range of establishments that cater to both locals and visitors. The diverse architecture along Monte Cassino Street reflects the town’s history, with a blend of traditional Polish buildings and more modern structures, contributing to Sopot’s distinctive character. Sopot is also known for its Forest Opera, a picturesque outdoor amphitheater that serves as the central stage for the annual Sopot International Song Festival. Since its inauguration in 1961, this iconic event has become one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious song contests. Today, Sopot Opera holds two major music events in Poland, one following the tradition of the international festival organised by the Polish national broadcaster, the other one organized by a private broadcaster.
