Mercado de San Miguel

If in a foreign country, many of us like to taste local food. In Madrid we were recommended Mercado de San Miguel – a well organised and sheltered market for tapas and other variety of food like Spanish ham, paella, seafood, sweets, etc. and drinks located in the vicinity of Plaza Mayor. The place is frequented by both locals and tourists. Although you can take away food you buy there, the idea is rather to go from one stand to another and enjoy the local specialties. Finding a free spot to sit down is difficult, but not impossible. We went there for only half hour to drink vermouth (drunken in Spain as appetizer) and grab a bite. I tried gulas, which is made of fish >>>. I can however imagine stopping at this place for longer time and make a true round.
