The Eiffel Tour

JMA_Eiffel (2)One of the European icons. I would even risk saying, the most prominent one. It is visited by 7 million people yearly.

The Eiffel Tour was constructed for the 1889 Exposition Universelle that took place in Paris. It was designed and built by and under the supervision of Gustave Eiffel, a worldwide specialist in metal construction. Hence its name.

It had only been built to stand for twenty years. Quite soon, we will, however, celebrate its 130 birthday. The works lasted for 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days.

It is 324 meters high, with 3 floors from which you can admire the view. The highest one quite close to the top is at 276 m. Basically, from the third floor, you can only make shots of the panorama. It consists of two levels, one that is fully sheltered, and the upper one that is open but secured with a net. The second floor (at 115 m) is quite a beautiful place to take photos of the inside (the metal constructions) itself, as it is in practice at least two levels, on which you can freely move around. The first floor is quite huge. In winter, an ice skating rink is constructed at one of its corners.

All floors may be reached by lifts, but you have to decide where you want to go before buying a ticket. There is a possibility to skip the first floor, take a lift to the second one. There you can end your visit or make a second lift and go to the top-level. From the top level, while returning, you must take the liftback. On the second floor, you may decide whether to take a lift or take the stairs. Last time I was on the Eiffel tour, I decided to take the stairs to the ground level. With more than 100 meters to go down, it required a bit of muscle work. But it was worth it as one can see the metal construction at the close.
